Mardi Gras Parades This Week

February 5 2013

Mardi Gras ParadesI hope all of the 49’ers fans,  Ravens fans (I know you did!) and football fans had a great time in New Orleans, but now it’s time to get down to serious business.

After a week off for the Super Bowl, Mardi Gras parades start rolling again tomorrow night in New Orleans.

Wednesday, February 6th

The Krewe of Ancient Druids start things off at 6:30 pm. They start Uptown at the intersection of Magazine Street and Jefferson Avenue and follow the traditional Uptown parade route along St. Charles Avenue. Expect them to reach Canal Street about two to three hours after they kick off.

Following the Ancient Druids is the Mystic Krewe of Nyx, an all woman Krewe founded in 2012. Last year on late notice, they put together a parade with 534 riders. With a full year to prepare, I can’t wait to see what they come up with this year!

Thursday, February 7th

The Knights of Babylon start off an exciting Thursday night at 5:45 pm. This Krewe established in 1939, still has their parade route light flambeaux and the king’s float is still mule drawn.

Following the Knights at 6:30 is the much anticipated Krewe Of Muses.  This all female Krewe is known for their satirical themed floats and prized shoe giveaways.  You don’t want to miss this parade!

Right after the Muses, the Knights of Chaos march through Uptown. Their theme will remain a secret until they roll Thursday night, but I have feeling you’re going to like their satirical theme.

And that’s just the start of the upcoming festivities. Stay tuned, on Thursday I’ll go through the rest of the parades this Mardi Gras weekend!
