Throw Me A Hot Dog, Mister!
Mardi Gras in Shreveport with the Krewe of Highland
Mardi Gras isn’t just celebrated in Greater New Orleans. There are krewes all over the state and they all have unique traditions.
One parade we love is put on by the Krewe of Highland in Shreveport. Along with throws like beads and cups, Highland’s signature throw is the hot dog. It all started when a sub-krewe, the Krewe of Barbecue, came onto the scene. Today, Highland krewe members grill hot dogs on their floats, wrap them up in foil, and throw them into an appreciative crowd. Over the years, they’ve also thrown spam sandwiches, tacos–even Ziploc bags of spaghetti and meatballs!
The date of the 2024 Krewe of Highland parade is February 11. Come hungry!
