Trade Beads For King Cake This Weekend

February 21 2017

Let’s be honest: keeping the beads is not nearly as fun as catching them! So why not trade them in for a King Cake while enjoying a pop up party? Seriously!

Crown Royal is encouraging revelers (21 and older only, please) to join them at the corner of Canal and South Peters St to donate those beads that would only end up in the trash in exchange for a King Cake from the Gambino’s Bakery.  Partiers can also purchase handcrafted Crown Royal cocktails and enjoy live entertainment.

The beads will benefit Arc of Greater New Orleans, a nonprofit dedicated to serving people with intellectual disabilities and delays. The charity operates a year-round Mardi Gras Recycling Center, where used beads are sorted, repackaged, and resold for around a $1 per pound, creating jobs and raising money for those in need.

Visual artist Stephan Wanger will also be on site using a portion of the beads to create dazzling mosaics – and you could be asked to help him complete his latest work of art “Life in the French Quarter” – a 8’ by 96’ mural. He’ll need some helping hands to break his own Guinness World Record for the largest mosaic!
