New Orleans always celebrates the start of the week with red beans & rice but, on the day before Mardi Gras, we take Mondays to a whole new level. Head down the Spanish Plaza/Woldenberg Park area on Monday, February 20th from 12 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and see what we mean.
This year, Riverwalk Outlets and WWL-TV will be presenting the 37th Annual Riverwalk Lundi Gras. FREE and open to the public, the event features live music from some of New Orleans’ favorite bands, including Dwayne Dopsie and the Zydeco Hellraisers, the Brass-A-Holics, and Flow Tribe. There will also be local food and drink vendors and fun shopping.
The event culminates with a Carnival tradition: the meeting of Mardi Gras royalty, Rex and Zulu. Mayor LaToya Cantrell will take the stage to hand over the keys of the city and let the merriment begin. The ceremony is then followed by an extravagant fireworks display over the river before the Monday night parades.
