Mardi Gras may be an ancient celebration but there's always some new to discover. As the krewes announce their 2020 themes, throws and celebrity monarchs and riders, we'll post that information here. For krewe history and more information about the individual parades, check our krewe pages.
Twelfth Night Parades
The Carnival Season kicks off on King's Day (a.k.a. Twelfth Night) with streetcar parades, and the beloved French Quarter procession, Krewe of Joan of Arc. Coincidentally enough, January 6th was Joan's birthday. Joan's party begins January 6th at 7 p.m.
Krewe of Chewbacchus
The Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbacchus will roll Saturday, February 1 at 7 p.m. in the Marigny. The 2020 parade is dedicated to the last British actor Peter Mayhew who played Chewbacca in Star Wars films in the 70s and 80s. The 2020 theme is "The Roar of the Wookiee." Krewe of Bohème
Singer Tarriona "Tank" Ball of Tank and the Bangas will reign as the Supreme Green Fairy of the Krewe of Bohème. The parade will roll Friday, Feburary 7 at 7 pm. in the Margigny and French Quarter.n.
Krewe of Poseidon
This Slidell krewe Poseidon is rolling with the theme "Louisiana Saturday Night" with float themes like seafood, jazz, festivals, Sportsman's Paradise and football. Jazz legend Ronnie Kole will serve as Grand Marshal and highights of the parade will include the Southern University Human Jukebox, the Golden Sioux Mardi Gras Indians, the Muff-a-lottas, the Nyxettes and the 610 Stompers. Poseidon rolls on Saturday, February 8th, at 6 p.m. in Slidell.
Krewe du Vieux
The satirical Krewe du Vieux's 2020 theme may just be too naughty to name here. Suffice it to say, it rhymes will "Election 2020." This year's monarch is BB St. Roman of the NOPD's Homeless Assistance Unit and former manager of Dr. John. The new route starts and ends at Press and Royal streets in the Marigny. It corsses Royal, turns on Toulouse and retuns on Decatur and Chartres streets. Krewe du Vieux rolls Saturday, February 8th at 6:30 p.m.
Following on the heels of Krewe du Vieux is krewedelusion at 7:15 p.m. While their theme is kept secret to parade day, it's slogan should tell you a lot: "The People Shall Rule – Until A Suitable Replacement Can Be Found." Their mission is "to save the Universe, beginning at its center, New Orleans."
Krewe of Nefertiti
The Krewe of Nefertiti is bringing a brand new parade to New Orleans East. The theme is "The Birth of Nefertiti" and there will be 14 floats, each portraying a chapter in Egyptian history. Throws will include a special jewelry boxes and a colring book sereies of the life of Nefertiti. Don't miss it Sunday, February 9th at noon in New Orleans East.
Krewe of Little Rascals
The theme of the 37th annual Little Rascals parade is "Little Rascals 2020 Bucket List." Floats titles incldue Travels, Animal Care and Professions. This beloved parade featuring kids rolls Sunday, February 9 at noon in Metairie.
Mystick Krewe of Perseus
"Our Golden Anniversary" is the theme of the 2020 Perseus parade in Slidell. Throws for their 50th parade will include their signature beaded crabs and gold anodized 50th anniversary doubloons. Slidell's oldest carnival organization rolls Sunday, February 9, at 1:15 in Slidell.
Krewe of Slidellians
"Birds of a Feather" will roll after Perseus on Sunday, February 9th at 2 p.m. in Slidell. Presented by the Slidell Women's Civic Club, the Slidellians' parade will feature 20 floats, 300 riders, and several beauty pageant queens in convertibles.
'Tit is a Cajun abbreviation for petite or small. This microkrewe, the city's first and only, parades with decroated minature shoebox floats. They even toss mini throws. Watch for it Sunday, February 9th at 4:30 p.m. in the Marigny.
Krewe of Oshun
"The Message is Love" is the theme of 24th Annual Krewe of Oshun parade. Float titles include Heart to Heart, Play Something Pretty and I'm Writing You a Four Page Letter. Throws to covet include handmade fans and peacoke krewe beads and lighted peacock rings. Oshun rolls on Valentine's Day, February 14th, at 6 p.m. Uptown.
Krewe of Cleopatra
The Krewe of Cleopatra’s 2020 parade theme will "Cleopatra's Vixens and Valentines.'' There will be an Egyptian title float and theme floats include Candelight Dinner, Scarlett O'Hara, and Marilyn Monroe. Their signature barge was built 40 yearss ago in Spain. Krewe of ALLA and Legion of Mars
The theme for this year's parade which salutes our military heroes and first responders is "Friday Night Flicks and Fun." Floats will salute Hollywood superheroes and have titles like The Avengers, Hungry Hungry Hippos, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Throws include hand-decorated genie lamps and doubloons in lots of different shapes and colors. The fun starts Friday, February 14th at 7 p.m. on the Uptown route. See story in our blog.
Krewe of Excaliber
The 2020 theme for Krewe of Excaliber is “Knights Love Revelry.” There will be 20 floats with titles such as Hot Air Balloons, Casino Night, and Circus. Throws will include hand-decorated wooden shields and Special Valentine's Day throws. Excaliber rolls February 14th at 7:30 p.m. during Family Gras. This is the krewe's 19th parade.
Krewe of Eve
"My Heart Belongs To Eve" is the theme of this Northshore parade featuring 20 floats and 400 female members. Float themes include Eve Loves Lake Pontchartrain, Eve Loves the Zoo, and Eve Loves Jazz. We're hoping to catch some apple and snake bracelets and a Eve logo tutu. Eve rolls in Mandeville on February 14th at 7 p.m.
Mystic Knights of Adonis
This year the Mystic Knights of Adonis will offer up a 14-float parade with the theme, "Adonis: As Colorful as Can Be." Look for floats with titles like St. Louis Cathedral, Muppets, and Music. We're keeping our eye out to catch some Adonis Musical Horns. Adonis' 22nd annual parade rolls February 15th at 11:45 p.m. on the West Bank.
Knights of Nemesis
Around 240 riders on will be hitting the parade route in St. Bernard Parish in this parade featuring 13 Mac Cantrell floats. Throws include Nemesis t-shirts, medallion beads, foam swords and more. The 15th annual Knights of Nemesis parade will roll on Saturday, February 15th at 1 p.m.
Krewe of Pontchartrain
"The Pontchartrain Blues" is the theme of the 45th annual Krewe of Pontchartrain parade. The Bayou Clydesdales, the Tulane Marching Band, and the Air Force Academy Cadet Drum & Bugle Corps will all be there. Float titles include Blue Plate Special; Red, White and Blue, and Deep Blue Sea. Come catch a crawfish tray and some 38" pearl mini grouper beads. Pontchartrain rolls February 15th at 1 p.m. on the Uptown route.
Krewe of Choctaw
The Krewe of Choctaw has announced that its theme for its 85th Anniversary parade in 2020 will be "Party Like It's 1999" with floats that are musical tributes to that year. Keepable throws include signature tomahawks and Chief's Head Cutout doubloons. Choctaw will it the parade route on Saturday, February 15th at 2 p.m. in Uptown New Orleans.
Krewe of Freret
The 2020 Grand Marshal of the Krewe of Freret is none other than Trombone Shorty! The theme of the 18-float parade is "Music of New Orleans" with floats saluting the greats like Louis Armstrong and Professor Longhair. Throws include signature hand-painted masks. Freret rolls Saturday, February 15th on the Uptown Route after Choctaw. See story in our blog.
Magical Krewe of MadHatters
This new, 26-float Metairie parade will feature an Alice in Wonderland theme. Former New Orleans quarterback Bobby Hebert will reign as Mad Hatter and Amanda Shaw will be Alice. The Magical Krewe of MadHatter's first adventure begins Saturday, February 15th at 5 p.m. at Family Gras.
Get ready for "Fins & Festivals," the 41st annual parade from the Centurions. Floats subjects include Stingray, Eel and Sea Turtle. The Grand Marshals are members of the 2019 Little League World Series Championship from River Ridge, Louisiana. Look to catch some new hand-decorated swords this year. The Centurions roll Saturday, February 15th at 6 p.m. in Metairie.
Knights of Sparta
Sparta's theme for 2020 is "On the Street Where You Live." Titles include Via Veneto–Rome, Avenue de Champs Elysees–Paris, and St. Charles Avenue–New Orleans. Each year this krewe selects a prince and princess from a local charity. The throw to catch is the LED Spartan helmet. Sparta rolls Saturday, February 15th at 5:30 p.m. on the Uptown route.
The 25-float Pygmalion progression will roll with the theme "Viaggia In Italia." Floats will feature Italian cities and landmarks such as Naples, the Sistine Chapel and Venice. Throws will include lighted logo beads, wands and Venetian masks. The procession will roll Saturday, February 15th at 6:15 p.m. on the Uptown route.
Mystic Krewe of Olympia
"Oh What It Means To Miss New Orleans" is the theme of the 21-float Olympia parade this year. Float titles include We Jammin', Party Hardy, and Pour Some Sugar On It. Come see the Budweiser Clysdales and catch throws such as special cloissonné doubloons and Olympia-crested items like lightening bolts. The fun begins Saturday, February 15th at 6:00 p.m. in Covington.
Krewe of Titans
The Krewe of Titans' 2020 procession is entitled "A Perfect 10." The theme celebrates their 10th anniversary and will feature floats honoring past parades. Head for the Slidell parade route on Saturday, February 15th at 6:30 p.m.
The Mystic Krewe of Femme Fatale
This year's theme for the Mystic Krewe of Femme Fatale is "Mystic Krewe of Femme Fatale Presents Love Songs." Float titles include Higher Love, Visions of Love and Endless Love. Come catch their signature throw, a mirrored compact. The krewe parades Sunday, February 16th at 11 a.m. along the Uptown route.
Krewe of Carrollton
The 2020 theme for the 27-float Krewe of Carrollton parade is "Color My World." The parade will feature color-themed floats including Pink, Baby Blue and, of course, Purple Gold and Green, the official colors of Mardi Gras. Special throws will include Carrollton's signature decorated shrimp boots. Carrollton rolls Sunday, February 16th at 12 p.m. on the New Orleans Uptown route.
Krewe of King Arthur
The theme of the 2020 King Arthur parade is "20 Years in Downtown New Orleans," Riders on the 50+ floats will feature throws custom, hand-decorated grails. Arthur rolls Sunday, February 16th at 1 p.m. on the New Orleans Uptown route. Photo from @KreweofKingArthur. Grail Artist: Bart Gibson.
Krewe of Paws
Love a doggie parade? There are two back to back this year! This year's theme for Slidell's Krewe of Paws is "Bad to the Bone." The fun will be unleashed Saturday, February 15th at 10 a.m in Olde Town Slidell.
Mystic Krewe of Barkus
Barkus, the beloved carnival Canine Krewe will parade through the French Quarter in 2020 to the theme "BARK TO THE FUTURE: Barkus Returns to the 80s." The best dog walk in the world begins at Louis Armstrong Park on Sunday February 16th at 2 p.m.
Krewe of Push Mow
This year's theme for the Krewe of Push Mow is intriguing: "Science Fair Projects Gone Wild." This parade featuring decorated lawn mowers rolls Sunday, February 16th at 11 a.m. in Abita Springs.
Krewe of Dionysus
The theme for the 35th annual Krewe of Dionysus parade is "Bars of Yore and Lore." Float titles include Post Time, Salvagio's, and Thonn's. It will roll Sunday, Feburary 16th at 2 p.m. in Slidell.
Krewe of Atlas
Metairie's Krewe of Atlas will be back on the parade route this year after a four-year absence. Their return theme is "Atlas Is Back Too" and float titles include Going to the Beach, Shopping at the Mall, and Thanksgiving. Start setting up your chairs on Sunday, February 16th at 4 p.m.
The Krewe of Kings
Kings is back for its second year with "First Time for Everything." Float titles include First Time for a Train Ride, First Dancing School, and First Mardi Gras. Throws to scurry for include lighted crowns and sceptors. Kings will roll Sunday, February 16th at 5 p.m.
Mystic Krewe of Druids
While the theme for Druids is kept secret until p-day, they are divulging that there will be 18 floats, including a new "Consultants" float. Throws include lighted wands, lighted poly beads and plush golden acorns. Don't miss Druids, Wednesday, February 16th at 6:15 p.m.
Krewe of Nyx
This huge all-female Krewe of Nyx won't give up the name of this year's theme until they roll but we can guarantee it will be a great surprise. Throws will include those famous hand-decorated Nyx purses. The parade rolls Wednesday, February 19th at 6:45 p.m. Uptown. Photo by Jennifer Pellegrin.
Knights of Babylon
This is the 81st anniversary of the Knights of Babylon parade. Their old-time float procession will include King Sargon on a mule-drawn float surrounded by flambeaux. The theme is always kept secret until parade time. Babylon rolls Thursday, February 20th at 5:30 p.m. Uptown.
Knights of Chaos
Chaos will celebrate its 20th anniversary this year with a 16-float parade (theme to be revealed the night of the procession). This night parade features flambeaux and 20+ members will be on horseback. Throws include float-specific cards, lighted knight figures and LED swords. See you on the Uptown parade route Thursday, February 20th at 6:15 p.m.
Everybody who's anybody is looking foward to "Muses Hersday." While Muses' theme is not revealed until the parade, set your hopes on catching their famous hand-decorated Muses shoes. The big shoe (and the big ducks) will roll February 20th at 6:30 p.m. on the Uptown route. Photo by Lisa Herman.
Krewe of Bosum Buddies
Surprise! This foot parade's 2020 theme is "Boob Tube." Look for the Krewe of Bosum Buddies on Friday, February 21st at 11:30 a.m. in the French Quarter.
Hermes' 2020 theme is "Carnival at the French Opera House," with floats depicting balls held at the old opera house, including Visions of Other Worlds 1886, Journey to the Moon 1901, and Romantic Legends 1917. Look for a new signature float entitled Argephontes. Highlights of the parade are the 610 Stompers and the St. Augustine Marching 100. Signature throws include plush storybooks, LED Hail Hermes bracelets, doubloons in different colors, and lots of lighted throws. Hermes rolls Friday, February 21st at 5:30 p.m. Uptown.
Krewe d'Etat is led by the famous Skeleton Walking Krewe and is followed by 24-satirical floats. Come catch lighted flambeaux beads, wearable Dictator hats, blinking gargoyle beads. as well as the 17h edition of the d'Etat Gazette. The Budweiser Clydesdales will be there as well as the Nawlin' Nyphs and the Dictator's Dancin' Dawlins. d'Etat rolls Friday, February 21st at 6:30 p.m. Uptown.
Krewe of Morpheus
This year marks the 20th anniversary of Morpheus and they're doing it up big with "Morpheus Dreams of Aquatic Adventures." Float subjects include Deep Sea Divers, Tropical Fish and Beautiful Seashells. Ask 'em to throw you a hand-decorated sleep mask or a plush Morpheus moon, sheep or sleepy time bear. They'll also have new LED logo beads and five different colored cutout doubloons. The Morpheus procession takes place Friday, February 21st at 7 p.m. Uptown.
Krewe of Selene
This all-female Slidell parade's theme is "A New Orleans Staycation." Float subjects include Relaxing in City Park, Drinks at Pat O'Brien's, and Afternoon at the Aquarium of the Americas. WDSU's Sula Kim will be Grand Marshal. Like Nyx, Selene throws hand-decorated purses, as well as lighted headpieces and fleur de lis beads. They roll Friday, February 21st at 6:30 p.m. on the Northshore.
NOMTOC (New Orleans Most Talked of Club)
Head to the West Bank for NOMTOC's 50th annual parade with floats depicting themes from years gone by. WGNO's Tamica Lee will serve as Grand Marshal and Downtown Leslie Brown will ride as a celebrity guest. Throws will include 50th anniversary medallion beads. They roll Saturday, February 22nd at 10:45 a.m.
The Krewe of Iris, the oldest all-female krewe, is 3,448-members strong. Their theme for 2020 is "Iris Sees 20/20." The parade will feature 34 floats – all tandem and some triple tandem. Floats will feature titles like Happy Birthday, Summer Olympics 2020, Summer Vacation and New Years/Welcome 2020. Highlights of the parade will include the Krewe of the Rolling Elvi and the Amelia EarHarts. Signature throws are Iris hand-decorated sunglasses. The parade will start Saturday, February 22, at 11 a.m. on the Uptown route.
Krew of Tucks
The theme of this comedic krewe's 52st parade is "Tucks Hits The Sweet Spot." Come see floats with titles like "Bit-O-Honey Boo Boo," "Blow Pop Suckers," "Gushers," and "Friar's Original Hard Candy." Catch colored toilet paper, toilet brushes and plungers. Tucks rolls Saturday, February 22 at noon on the Uptown route.
Krewe of Lafcadio
Journalist Lafcadio Hearn lived in our city from 1877 to 1888 and was famous for his books about New Orleans food and culture. His namesake krewe, ruled by a top local chef, honors the local culinary industry. The procession features two mule-drawn float and two brass bands. Their signature throw is a 14” long wooden cooking spoon. They roll Saturday, February 22nd at 2 p.m. in the French Quarter.
Krewe of Endymion
The theme of the 2020 Endymion parade will be "Endymion's Historic Dynasties'' Each float will feature a historic ruler or a symbol of a past kingdom. Because of renovations to the Superdome, the parade will end at the Endymion Extravaganza at the Convention Center this year. Entertainers for the event include Tim McGraw, Styx, Train, Groovy 7 and The Wise Guys. Endymion rolls Saturday, February 22nd at 4:15 p.m. on the Mid-City parade route.
The oldest female Mardi Gras organization in Jefferson Parish will celebrate their 48th parade with the theme "Isis Shows Its Colors." Isis, which moves from Metairie back to Kenner this year, will be throwing decorated bras and bra beads (they're committed to brast cancer charities). Isis hits the parade route Saturday, February 22nd at 6:30 p.m. in Kenner.
Krewe of Okeanos
The 23-float Okeanos parade's theme for 2020 is "Okeanos Honors the Gods." Gods deserving of their own floats include Mercury, Venus Goddess of Love, and Okeanos God of Fertile Rivers and Valleys. The most sought-after throw will be the famous Okeanos crawfish tray. Save yourself a place on the Uptown parade route on Sunday, February 23rd at 11 a.m.
Krewe of Mid-City
The 87th annual Krewe of Mid-City will feature the theme "Heart Breakers and Head Bangers." Float subjects will include For Whom the Bell Tolls, Love Is A Battlefield, and Sweet Dreams. Also, don't miss their signature City Park float and look for the newly designed Chee Wees in the foil bag. Sunday, February 23rd at 11:45 a.m. on the Uptown route.
Krewe of Thoth
"As the World Turns" is the theme of the 73rd annual Toth parade. Float subjects include Paris, Rio de Janeiro, and New York. Grand Marshal Louis Prima Jr. will be performing on the Officer's Float. They'll all be throwing lots of stuff but we're hoping to catch some Toth socks. Be there Sunday, February 23rd at Noon on the Uptown route.
Krewe of Bacchus
The Krewe of Bacchus has announced that singer Robin Thicke will reign as Bacchus LII. This year, the superkrewe's theme is "The Wild, Wild West." New signature throws will include light up cowboy hats and bolo ties. The God of Wine rolls Sunday, February 23rd at 5:15 p.m. on the Uptown route.
Krewe of Athena
The all-female krewe Athena is known for tossing hand-decorated fedoras. They'll roll with 22 floats this year and the theme "Krewe of Athena...In Living Color." Raynell "Supa Cent" Steward, founder of New Orleans-based Crayon Case cosmetics company, will reign as Grand Marshal this year. Athena rolls Sunday, February 23rd at 5:30 p.m. in Metairie.
Reality star Regan Charleston will be the Grand Marshal of the Krewe of Pandora this year. The theme: "Hindsight is 20-20." Come beg for a hand-decorated box. Pandora follows Athena Sunday, February 23rd in Metairie.
The 20-float Proteus parade's theme for 2020 is "Feasts and Libations." Floats will feature titles like Absinthe, Feasts of Fools and Delicacies of the Deep. Look to catch LED flambeaux and LED plush trident crowns, as well as silver and red "sovereigns" (doubloons). Krewe of Orpheus
Orpheus 2020, founded by Harry Connick, Jr., will roll with celebrity monarch Bryan Cranston of "Breaking Bad." This year's theme is "The Beastly Kingdoms." "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia starts Charlie Day and Mary Elizabeth Ellis will also ride in the parade. Country musician and Dancing with the Stars finalist Lauren Alaina will entertain at the Orpheuscapade. There will also be a special tribute to Art Neville, the Krewe's 2020 Musical Legend. Head for the Uptown parade route on February 24th at 6 p.m.
Krewe of Zulu
Few throws are more prized than a coconut from the Krewe of Zulu. Zulu King for 2020 is Brian Sims. Zulu’s characters for 2020 will be Christoper Wyre as Zulu Big Shot, Special Kirk as Zulu Witch Doctor, Richard Wilson as Zulu Ambassador, Lawrence Lee as Zulu Mayor, Sean Bruno as Zulu Province Prince, Jerome Temple as Zulu Governor and Tannard Darensburg as Zulu Mr. Big Stuff. This year's theme is "Zulu's Book of Love and Cinema." Zulu rolls Fat Tuesday, February 25th at 8 a.m. on the Uptown Route, right before Rex.
Revelers at the 139th Rex parade will be treated to a beautiful procession entitled "Omens and Auguries," which will portray the world of prophets and oracles. Come catch float-specific beads, classic glass beads and those famous Rex gold doubloons. Rex rolls on Mardi Gras Day at 10 a.m. on the Uptown parade route. It is followed by two truck parades, the Elks Orleanians and the Crescent City Truck Parade.
It's a big year for the Krewe of Covington Lions Club. Their parade theme is "I Can Seafood Clearly Now in 2020." Musician Vince Vance will serve as Celebrity Grand Marshal. The parade begins at 10 a.m. in downtown Covington.
The Mystic Krewe of Covington
The Mystic Krewe of Covington parade follows right after the Covington Lions and leads right to a big party at Covington Trailhead with live music, a kids craft area, food and refreshments.
Krewe of Argus
The Krewe of Argus will take the streets of Metairie with the theme "Argus Rolls Down the Yellow Brick Road." Special guest riders include the 2019 Little League World Series Champions, the Eastbank All-Stars. Signature throws include a 10" plush peacock named "Gus." The Argus procession will take place on Fat Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Metairie. It is followed by the Elks Jeffersonianas and the Krewe of Jefferson truck parades.
Krewe du Pooch
Thought it was all over? Wrong. This year the Krewe du Pooch will parade for the first time on February 29th on the Mandeville Lakefront. The theme of the inaugural parade is "Dressed to the #9s," a celebration of Drew Brees, Joe Burrow and Louisiana's football culture. The fun will last from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Learn more.
