Krewe of Shangri-La
The Name Shangri-La means "eternal youth, peace & tranquility". The Krewe is named after the mythical Eden-like land called "Shangri-La" in the Himalayan mountains. It is one of the few Carnival Krewes named for a place or a state of mind instead of the traditional Greek gods. Shangri-La began in 1973 as an all women's Krewe in St. Bernard. In 2000, it moved to New Orleans, where it continues to roll. The organization is now formed by more than 500 male and female riders.
