November 30 2012

One New Orleans artist, Stephan Wagner is re-using Mardi Gras to make the world’s largest Mardi Gras Bead Mosaic.

The first bead was placed on the mural 42 foot long mural, the plan is to have it finished in January, 2013. The mosaic features New Orleans city skyline and anyone who wants to place beads on the masterpiece can do so for free. The mural showcases New Orleans’ cultural economy to the visitors in town for the Superbowl and Mardi Gras.

The project benefits the Arc of Great New Orleans and the St. Michael Special School, which provide services for children with developmental disabilities.

When it’s completed, the mural will break the exisiting Guinness World Record, already held by Wagner. In 2012 he created a piece called “Sanctuary of Alegria – Home of Happiness.” That mural featured the skyline of New Orleans from the Mississippi River. The new mural features the skyline from the other side of New Orleans- looking towards the river
