Lundi Gras and Mardi Gras 2014 parades

Posted on: February 28 2014 | Posted in: Schedule

King of ZuluLundi Gras and Mardi Gras are finally here! Parades and festivities are in full swing. Everywhere is a party or a parade in one form or another.  Here’s a few of the highlights…

Lundi Gras

Start off  Monday with Zulu’s Lundi Gras Festival in Woldenberg Park. The fest includes three stages of music with performances by Kermit Ruffins, Rebirth Brass Band, Big Al Carson and many more Mardi Gras favorites. There will also be appearances by the beautifully costumed Zulu characters, food, children’s activities and more.

Krewe of Proteus – Krewe of Proteus kicks of the Lundi Gras parades at 5:15 p.m. on the Uptown parade route. They are the second oldest parade, founded in 1992.

Krewe of Orpheus – Super krewe Orpheus rolls at 6 p.m. Riding with the krewe this year will be blockbuster director Quentin Tarantino, who will reign as the krewe’s celebrity monarch. The honorary grand marshal will be Fats Domino.  Fats will be represented by his eldest son, who will perform his dad's music along the route. Following the parade is Orpheuseapade with Cheap Trick and Big Bad VooDoo Daddy at the Morial Convention Center.

Mardi Gras

“All on a Mardi Gras day”

Krewe of Zulu – Start off Mardi Gras early with the Krewe of Zulu when they roll at 8 a.m. You’ll probably notice everyone screaming for coconuts. It’s their prized throw, but they also have a lot of other signature throws and collectibles.

Krewe of Rex – The legendary super krewe Rex rolls at 10 a.m. They continue their tradition of parading every Mardi Gras Day since 1872. They’re known for their colorful, hand decorated floats with more than just a touch of elegance.

If you didn’t get enough beads, the truck parades, Krewe of Elks Orleans and Krewe of Crescent City follow Rex.
