Krewe of Boo: Halloween Parade

Posted on: October 10, 2013 | Posted in: News

Throw me somethin’, Monster!

Krewe of Boo For those of you who can’t wait for Mardi Gras to roll around in March, or for those that love the ghosts and goblins of Halloween, I have a parade for you! The Krewe of Boo takes to the streets on Oct. 26 as part of New Orleans’ official Halloween parade.  It’s a festive Mardi Gras style parade with a spooky Halloween theme.

Instead of beads, this parade throws candy and pralines. It’s better than taking the kids trick or treating and raiding their stash of treats afterwards. Plus, there will be a number of throws that range from innocent-like children’s stuffed toys to scary handmade Voodoo Doll pins.

As the parade marches through the French Quarter, you’ll see a headless horseman float, a haunted graveyard and many more scenes that may make your say “wow” or run for cover. Be prepared.

The parades rolls at sunset (between 6 and 6:30 p.m.), starting in the Marigny along Elysian Fields Avenue.  It travels along N. Peters through the Boo Carre, also known as the Vieux Carre any other time of the year. It loops up Canal Street and back down to Tchoupitoulas Street on the way to Mardi Gras World.

The after party at Mardi Gras World kicks off at 8 p.m. and the fun doesn’t stop until 2 a.m. It will include monsters, booze, food and lots of music.  The funky sounds of New Orleans’ hometown favorites Flow Tribe (8:30 p.m.) is joined by the Pimps of Joytime (10:30 p.m.), who are coming all the way from Brooklyn to join in on the party. Tickets are currently $25 and on sale via the Krewe of Boo website.

This is one parade and party that you don’t want to miss. Make sure to come in costume and are ready for a night of spooky good fun.
