Meet the Celebrity Royalty of Carnival 2017

The Who’s Who of the Super Krewes.

The best thing about Super Krewes is the superstars. In the past, celebrities like Bob Hope, William Shatner, Dolly Parton, Elijah Wood, Will Ferell, Dan Aykroyd, Quentin Tarantino, Whoopi Goldberg, Sandra Bullock, Stevie Wonder, Anderson Cooper and Carrie Underwood have accepted invitations to rule over Carnival. Here’s who’s reigning this year.

Endymion – Saturday, February 25

KISS will headline the post-parade Endymion Extravaganza in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, sharing the spotlight with rapper FloRida and disco darlings KC and the Sunshine Band. Members of KISS will board a float near the Joy Theater on Canal Street and ride the rest of the way to the Superdome.

The theme of Endymion 2017 will be "The Constellations."

Bacchus – Sunday, February 26

King Bacchus for 2017 is actor Jim Caviezel who portrayed Jesus in "The Passion of the Christ" in 2004. You might also know him from "Person of Interest" on CBS, a role which garnered him two People’s Choice Award nominations in 2014 and 2015.

The theme for this year’s Bacchus parade is "Salute to the Saints' 50th." Expect to catch throws from a few of your favorite players as well.

Orpheus – Monday, February 27 (Lundi Gras)

One of the Orpheus monarchs for 2017 is actor/comedian Will Forte, best known for his eight seasons on Saturday Night Live and for his role on “The Last Man on Earth.” Kristin Schaal, Mel Rodriguez, Mary Steenburgen and Cleopatra Coleman, his fellow “Last Man on Earth” cast members will also be riding.

Also serving as monarchs this year are Jimmi Simpson and Evan Rachel Wood from the HBO drama “Westworld.” Simpson is well known for his roles in TV shows like “Person of Interest,” “The Newsroom” and House of Cards,” to name just a few. His co-star Wood was nominated for a SAG and Golden Globe Award for her role as Dolores on “Westworld.”

Rock star Bret Michaels will also ride in the parade. He’ll perform at the 2017 Orpheuscapade along with Motown greats, The Temptations. It’s not “just your imagination” – this line-up rocks.

The theme of Orpheus this year is "On the Wave of a Dream."

Family Gras – Friday, February 17 – Sunday, February 19

At Family Gras in Metairie, you’ll enjoy three days of entertainment by both local and national performers, including the Creole Stringbeans, The Cowsills, The Association, Imagination Movesf, Paris Avenue, Big Sam’s Funky Nation, Tony Orlando, Fifth Harmony, Rougarou, Jenna Hunts, Jessie James Decker and Lee Brice.
