Endymion's First African American Mardi Gras King

January 24 2012

The Krewe of Endymion announced this weekend that New Orleans native George LaFargue will be the krewe's king for Mardi Gras in 2012. The Krewe of Endymion's process for choosing their king is a random drawing each year, and LaFargue was chosen, making him the first African American to reign as King Endymion.

As a member of the krewe for the past six years, LaFargue was thrilled with the opportunity. He said that when he was announced as king, he jumped and screamed, and his wife began crying tears of joy.

LaFargue will lead the Krewe of Endymion as their 46th king on Saturday, February 18th at 4:15 p.m.
