Family Gras 2019

Friday, Feb. 22 and Saturday, Feb. 23

Family Gras is a two-day FREE celebration of Carnival and family just ten minutes from downtown New Orleans. With crowds surpassing 80,000 each year, it’s big family fun just outside the Big Easy!

The event takes place every year on the neutral ground of Veterans Memorial Boulevard, across from Lakeside Shopping Center in Metairie. Bring your kids to enjoy the traditional spectacle of Mardi Gras parades, authentic New Orleans cuisine, local art at the Art Market, a Kids Court with face painting and interactive games, and free outdoor concerts by both national artists and Louisiana's own. Past acts have included Taylor Swift, Cowboy Mouth, Blood Sweat & Tears, Wilson Phillips, Montgomery Gentry, Jessy McCartney, The Drifters, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, Tony Orlando, Kansas, Billy Ray Cyrus, Sheena Easton, Jesse McCartney and Amanda Shaw.

 Enthusiastic Fans at Family Gras

Of course, a big part of the Family Gras are the fabulous parades rolling directly next to the Family Gras festivities. Enjoy the Krewe of Excalibur on Saturday night and the Krewe of Caesar on Sunday.

The Flambeau Food Court vendors "cook up" a good time with such favorites as jambalaya, crawfish pasta, muffulettas, pizza, and gator-on-a-stick, plus desserts like bread pudding and king cake.

The concerts are free but you can get VIP treatment by purchasing a Royal Pass ticket online or on site during the festival. Buy VIP tickets here.
